Boston-based singer, songwriter and pianist

In her day-to-day life, she is Angele Maraj, a Florida-grown and Boston-brewed singer-songwriter-musician-graduate student-nonprofit professional.

Whew. That's a lot of hyphens for one person. So on stage, she is simply HEMA, a middle name become identity for a performer looking to connect with audiences through shared truths and experiences and explore the gray areas of life through the use of black and white keys.

HEMA is influenced by a variety of musical styles and writers, including jazz, pop, doo-wop, blues, indie rock and folk. Her own background in the worlds of classical piano and a cappella can often be heard in her songs.

Where do you hear those songs? For the moment, live around Boston. You may notice there isn't a lot of music up on this site just yet....but keep your ears and eyes open. She's just getting started.

(In the meantime, you can keep up with HEMA through her official Facebook music page.)
